Helping in the Wake of the Quake

Posted on Jan 15th, 2010 •

Helping in the Wake of the Quake is soliciting help on behalf of the survivors of Haiti’s recent catastrophic event.  Restauranteurs are banding together to make a significant difference at this crucial time.

From January 18th to January 24th, each participating restaurant will offer their patrons the opportunity to contribute to Haitian relief efforts by adding $1 to their check.  At the end of the week, the total amount donated will be provided to Heartland Alliance, a Chicago non-profit organization which advances the human rights and responds to the human needs of endangered populations—particularly the poor, the isolated, and the displaced.

Anyone can help make a difference in the lives of refugees of the traumatic Haitian earthquake. It’s quick, it’s easy, and it will add up fast: Tell your server that you would like to donate by adding $1 to your bill.

Mission to Haiti
Heartland Alliance (@heartlandhelps), a national not-for-profit based locally, has established an emergency fund to assist survivors of the devastating January 12 earthquake in Haiti. A Heartland Alliance team will be leaving early next week to participate in on-the-ground assessments and in planning emergency responses with governmental, international, and community groups. Heartland Alliance's focus is on three major areas: immediate protection services, short and long term psychosocial services, and health care. Beside the Red Cross, Heartland Alliance is working with and with support by American Jewish World Service (AJWS), Eritaj Foundation, CHF International, Partners in Health, Our Little Brothers and Sisters (Nos Petites Freres et Soeurs), KONPAY, LAMBI Fund, Mouvman Peyizan Rankit (MPR), Mouvman Peyzan Bayone 2eme Section Communale des Gonaives (MPB), Oganizasyon Gwoupman Peyizan pou Devlopman 8eme Seksyon Kominal Akaye (OPD8), Movimiento Social-Cultural de los Trabajadores Haitianos (MOSCTHA), Movimiento de Mujeres Dominico Haitiana (MUDHA), Red de Encuentro Dominico Haitiano- Jacques Viau (REDH-JV).

History
Heartland Alliance was born in 1888, when Chicago became the second city to form a Travelers Aid organization. Heartland Alliance for Human Needs & Human Rights was formally adopted as the name of our organization in 1995 to best reflect our growing portfolio of housing, health care, economic security, and legal protections services. The experience, values, lessons, and programs of more than a century are connected in Heartland Alliance.
